Piracy response programme

The Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme (MPHRP) was set up to assist seafarers and their families with the traumatic effects of being involved in piracy attack or armed robbery and the fear involved in transiting high risk areas.

The Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme (MPHRP) was developed in response to the increased violence, intimidation, and torture suffered by seafarers. Its objective is to provide a good practice guide for shipping companies, manning agencies, and welfare associations. Seafarers and their families will be helped with the humanitarian aspects of trauma caused by either a piracy attack, armed robbery, or being taken hostage.

It offers a 24 hour helpline for seafarers and their families and support in three key phases – pre-departure, crisis and post incident. Seafarers and their families have access to trained first responders and professional aftercare through a global network of multi-disciplined experts.
