Seafarers are being asked to contribute to an international study on the impact of the Covid-19 in recognition of their essential role in delivering goods globally during the pandemic.

The study aims to capture the 'reality of maritime in times of crisis' and will help build evidence for campaigning on better recognition of seafarers as keyworkers. It is being conducted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). They have chosen transport as one of only six sectors they want to investigate due to the essential role that seafarers and other transport workers played during the pandemic.

The IFRC is also seeking leverage in the Joint Action Group, which is reviewing the impact of Covid-19 on seafarers and the global supply chain (JAG-TSC) as part of in its ongoing work with the World Health Organisation, other UN agencies and global employers. It is hoped that the results of the study will influence decision by these bodies in future crises.

Take part in the survey by Sunday 14 May 2023 here.
