Nautilus General Election Manifesto

20 June 2024 - 04 July 2024

Watch the Nautilus General Election 2024 manifesto webinar part 2

Venue: Webinar series: Nautilus General Election manifesto launch part 2

In the lead up to the UK General Election, Nautilus set out its stall for the key maritime reforms it believes any incoming government needs to commit to, in a two-part webinar series.

The Union believes its manifesto recommendations will ensure UK seafarers are equipped with the skills required to secure jobs during the rise of new alternative fuels and new technology for a decarbonised future.

The second webinar, chaired by Nautilus director of communications, campaigns and digital Helen Kelly and led by Nautilus director of organising Martyn Gray detailed the Union's plans for more robust employment protections, fair wages and decent conditions, plus the need to grow the UK domestic industry and secure good jobs in areas like offshore renewables. It considered the scope for cabotage and how the UK can be a leader internationally on social and employment rights for seafarers.

The UK maritime industry stands at a pivotal juncture. No-one pretends this will be easy to address, but our key asks are:

  • Future proofing skills and training – including guaranteeing a just transition for maritime professionals
  • Full protection for maritime employment
  • Create a stronger UK shipping industry domestically and internationally
  • Ensure continued international leadership on social and employment rights

You can also get involved by asking parliamentary candidates to take our Maritime Workers Pledge, which we also introduced during the webinars. Email campaigns@nautilusint.org to find out how.
