Nautilus Federation affiliate's president to receive prestigious maritime award
10 October 2023
A Nautilus Federation affiliate's president – Adam Vokac, of the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association (MEBA) – will receive the highest honour in the United States maritime sector.
Mr Vokac will be presented with the Admiral of the Ocean Sea award at the 54th Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) awards by the United Seamen's Service (USS), taking place in December 2023.
The USS has presented the AOTOS award for over 50 years, and it is widely regarded as the highest honour in the United States' maritime sector. This recognition is reserved for individuals and organisations that have made exceptional strides in the advancement of American seafarers and the United States' maritime industry. Recipients traditionally receive a silver statuette of Christopher Columbus.
In announcing Mr Vokac's award, the USS stated: 'Adam Vokac is dedicated to protecting the union's membership, a large and diverse mix of engineers and deck officers, experienced and skilled in all aspects of the maritime workforce.
'His dedication to the maritime industry is demonstrated by his commitment to the MEBA, his extensive shipping career and his fervent support of the laws and programs that keep the industry strong.'
