Nautilus International is awaiting a response from Stena Line Pte Ltd after 'respectfully' rejecting the company's offer at the 2025 pay and conditions review.
Liaison officers and Nautilus officials attended negotiations at the company offices at Skypark, Glasow on Thursday 28 November 2024, which they described as 'courteous and constructive'.
They presented the case for an uplift in salaries to reflect the current high cost of living to management representatives, as agents for the employer. The company gave a financial update, emphasising the need to make substantial saving and highlighting the proposed 80 redundancies and 30 contractors in Sweden due to a downturn in trade.
Following this, Stena's representatives proposed a 2% uplift in salaries and 2% increase in employer pension contribution, or alternatively a 2.5% uplift in salaries and1% increase in employer pension contributions.
The company also agreed to review the following:
- the circumstances in which 100% sick pay will apply
- the 'Mate Master' role
- the pay scales/rank structure for all officer positions
Nautilus head of industrial Micky Smyth said: 'We thanked the company for their offer and welcomed their agreement to review the other [non-pay] elements of our submission. However, we believe that this pay offer falls short of members expectations, and Nautilus respectfully rejected the offer.'
Following the meeting, management responded to the Union that, despite the financial headwinds that the company is encountering – such as the increase in National Insurance contributions and the increase in the National Minimum Wage next April – Stena Line Pte Ltd was 'taking the opportunity to review its position in light of the feedback received'.
'We are committed to giving this matter our fullest consideration before reconvening with Nautilus International to present a formal proposal to the union,' a spokesperson said.
