Nautilus visits UK Sailing Academy

In February 2024 Nautilus International yacht organisers Laura Molineux and Cheryl McCann visited the Union's strategic partner UK Sailing Academy (UKSA) to speak with cadets and present an award for Most Growth and Improvement during a graduation ceremony at the training institution.

UKSA formed a partnership with Nautilus back in 2017, as the Academy wanted to ensure that its students were receiving the protection and other benefits of Union membership from the start of their careers in the yacht sector. It has ensured that 12 months of membership is included at no cost to the cadets during their training.

Nautilus also commits to visit the cadets to give an overview of what the Union does and how it can support them, explaining how it provides advice, representation and legal assistance on employment related concerns and pay disputes, and also verifies sea time on behalf of the MCA.

During this year's visit, Ms Molineux and Ms McCann also held a drop-in session for cadets and other UKSA students to raise any issues or employment concerns.

They also presented an award (engraved Leatherman) to cadet Ross Campbell for Most Growth and Improvement during his studies.

'Ross Campbell has completed the cadetship with grace, kindness and with a smile, digging deep when he has needed to and refusing to do anything less than his absolute all,' Ms Molineux said.

Representatives from Trinity House and other key maritime organisations were also in attendance at the graduation to present awards.
