Visitors to Weymouth's Portland Harbour can experience a close-up of one of the world's most unique vessels, the 106.7m three-masted sailing yacht Black Pearl.
The Cayman-Islands flagged, 2,986 gt superyacht sailed into Portland port at the end of July and is currently anchored in Weymouth Bay. It has been collecting stores and doing some refitting and repairs, according to a Portland Port spokesperson and is expected back alongside on Wednesday.
The sleek black superyacht is sure to turn heads with its three 70-meter (230 ft) high masts and sails of black dacron fitted with solar cells. Boatmaster Paul Dallaway took this image of the Black Pearl from a local pleasure boat on Tuesday August 6.
The Black Pearl has a seven-metre draft, of which four metres is keel made up of 80% lead. The top part is fuel tanks, which keeps its weight in the water low.
The vessel can reach speeds of 30 knots in optimal weather and should be able to cross the Atlantic without using any fuel, according to an owner's representative. It also uses diesel engines.
Black Pearl can accommodate up to 12 guests in one master suite, two VIP and two double guest cabins. It has a cinema onboard as well as a swimming pool.
It was designed by Ken Freivokh with the help of Dykstra Naval Architects.
Black Pearl was built by privately owned custom yacht builder Oceanco in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands and launched in September 2016.
