What we do
The day-to-day activities of Nautilus International are highly varied and we pursue every possible avenue to improve the working lives of our members.
Organising
When Nautilus talks about 'organising', we mean how the Union brings people together in the workplace to negotiate and campaign as a group for better terms and conditions.
Protecting members
Our industry can be a dangerous place, and members face all sorts of potential problems as part of their work.
Negotiating
Nautilus International has a long and proud history of fighting to give maritime and inland waterways professionals the pay and conditions they deserve.
Voice of the maritime industry
Nautilus International is the voice of maritime professionals, at sea and ashore. We have a say on all the major issues affecting our members at national, European and global levels.
Raising public awareness
Nautilus works hard to raise public awareness of merchant seafaring and inland navigation through its publications, website, and social media campaigns.
Recognising achievement
As a maritime trade union and professional association, Nautilus has a responsibility to raise the profile of our members' important work as seafarers, boatmen and other maritime professionals.
Retired members
Retirement planning
In the UK, Nautilus has been involved in the creation and oversight of Merchant Navy pension schemes ever since the Union joined with employers to establish the Merchant Navy Officers’ Pension Fund (MNOPF) in the 1930s.
Nautilus Welfare Fund
Nautilus has been protecting the interests of seafarers for 160 years in the UK and a priority is to support the increasing numbers of retired mariners – in particular those over 75 years old.
