Chief Cook and Cook/ Steward
For service onboard their Aids to Navigation Tenders on a fixed manning rota – 28 days duty followed by 28 days leave.
The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible in law for the provision and control of a network of marine aids to navigation – lighthouses, buoys, beacons and a precision satellite-based navigation service.
The NLB’s catering function is responsible for the delivery of a healthy and balanced diet for the ships company and passengers.
Job Roles
As Chief Cook you will be responsible for ordering, managing and maintaining stock and assist the Master in management of the victualling budget. You will hold Line Management responsibilities for the Cook/ Steward, managing their time, workload and carrying out appraisals.
As Cook/ Steward you will assist the Chief Cook in preparation of meals, assist in management of ships garbage and ensure cleanliness of galley, fridges and storerooms. You will also be responsible for the cleaning of passageways, recreation rooms, mess room and passenger cabins.
Skills/ Experience
You will hold an MLC 2006 Ships cooks Certificate, a valid MCA Medical Certificate (ENG 1 and will have undertaken Medical Care, ISPS training and other relevant STCW training courses. You will have previous experience working as a ships cook and of creating and implementing innovative menus that meet differing dietary requirements using quality nutritious produce.
Salary and Benefits
The current pay bands are as follows and pay progression is dependent on skills and experience
Chief Cook - £35,403 rising to £38,211 per year
Cook/ Steward - £35,403 rising to £36,624 per year
