Background
The Communications department is responsible for representing the internal and external messaging of maritime Trade Union Nautilus International.
Job Role
The one-year internship is an exciting opportunity for a creative and hardworking digital-native looking for a well-rounded introduction to professional communications.
The Communications Assistant will support the wider team. You can expect to gain hands-on experience in internal and external comms, social media marketing, PR and journalism. No coffee-making required!
Key Accountabilities
- Support comms department staff in their roles, including researching, writing, editing and posting content on social media, online and in print, as required
- Manage social media accounts and assist the communications team to build social communities for Nautilus members
- Assist in the development and ongoing management of internal (email and intranet) communications
- Handle incoming calls, post and email communications, directing them to the most appropriate team member
- Write news, features, interviews and any other content as required
- Attend and report on industry events as required
- Perform any other duty as directed by the Communications Manager
Ideal Experience, Attitude and Interests
- Graduate level (or equivalent) education or training with interest in PR, communications or journalism
- Interest in learning about the maritime industry
- Interest in the Trade Union movement
- Digital native deeply embedded in social media platforms
- Working knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Excellent timekeeping
- You are a confident go-getter with a 'can-do' attitude
