The Service Manager (Ferry Operations) is responsible for the day to day operation and management of the ferry services provided by Orkney Ferries Limited to Orkney Islands Council. The Ferry Services Manager will therefore provide leadership, vision and direction for the ferry service with a focus on demonstrating best value and the highest operational, safety and customer standards in the delivery of the Ferry Service’s priorities and objectives as aligned to the Council’s, while ensuring continuous improvement across the ferry service area of responsibility and for the forward planning and strategic input to the future provision of ferry services as part of the wider transportation strategy for Orkney.

The Manager will have to demonstrate marine and business knowledge, background and experience to ensure the provision of suitable shore based advice, support and resources to the Masters of the vessels in order to maintain a safe, efficient and customer focused internal ferries operation according to the requirements of the trade and in accordance with Council / Service Health Safety and Environmental policy, the International Ship Management (ISM) Code and with the implementation and maintenance of the Maritime Coastguard Agency approved Safety Management System.
