About this role:

The Strategic Organiser role is an entry-to-mid level role, ideal for someone with limited Maritime and/or Trade Union representative experience looking to find a workplace with strong values of fairness, social justice, and the opportunity to make a difference to thousands of maritime professionals.
If successful you would be using your enthusiasm and proactiveness to build and maintain professional relationships with our members and with their employers, whilst supporting them through representation and casework handling. This will require research skills, presentation skills and the ability to positively persuade and influence.You will be helping and undertaking collective negotiations with employers on pay, terms and conditions, whilst seeking to establish new agreements where demand exists.You will promote engagement with Nautilus across the Maritime Sector through visiting our members in their workplaces and through engaging across the entire union to be an advocate for the benefits of union membership. You will become part of the reason why maritime professionals overwhelmingly choose Nautilus to look after their interests.You will be expected to report back to the membership on the varied activities you undertake on their behalf, as well as research and develop targeted, as well as general, campaigns and recruitment activitiesWe may, from time to time, ask you to undertake other duties in support of members such as getting involved in our equality fora or by representing Nautilus at external events and conferences and will be interested in using your skill, experience, and input in other ways through internal and external projects.Nautilus is committed to the educational and professional development of our colleagues and is willing to invest in developing and progressing our people based upon skill, competency, ambition, and enthusiasm. We expect candidates interested in this role to be educated to a (foundation) degree level, or equivalent, or demonstrate equivalent experience and be willing to consider further educational development in the future.We also believe that you must be committed to trade union values and social justice; whilst being good at building and maintaining excellent working relationships. We are one union, and therefore place teamwork at the heart of our activities; meaning we trust you to be able to work collaboratively, with multiple stakeholders, whether on an internal or external basis.We would like you to have knowledge of the maritime industry with seagoing experience as a certificated officer/engineer/ETO, but we are happy to hear from those with different maritime experience/knowledge or even those with none.
