The Maritime Skills Alliance (MSA) has announced the appointment of Iain Mackinnon as its new chairman. Mr Mackinnon, known for his nine-year stint as secretary, brings a wealth of experience and connections within the industry.

Mr Mackinnon was to assume the role in March 2024 following the departure of current chair, Bill Walworth, who oversaw the establishment of the Maritime Skills Commission during his decade-long tenure.

The MSA serves as an independent industry body, focusing on addressing skills development challenges by bringing voices from across the industry together. This encompasses initiatives such as apprenticeship development and advising employers on workforce strategies.

Reflecting on his time as chair, Mr Walworth expressed satisfaction with his contributions to the maritime workforce and expressed confidence in his successor's ability to further advance the MSA's goals.

'Iain brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge and, I am confident in saying, will drive the Alliance forward to create yet stronger and greater partnerships,' he said.
