Nautilus official joins talented new line up of trustees at The Seafarers' Charity

Nautilus International's executive director Martyn Gray has been made a trustee of of The Seafarers' Charity.

His appointment continues the charity’s long association with maritime unions. Mr Gray is a fully qualified engineering officer of the watch with comprehensive knowledge of the sector from his extensive work at the Union. His input is considered of vital importance in informing both direction and strategy to alleviate the disadvantages of seafarers.

Mr Gray is one five new trustees to the charity following the retirement of three trustees who stepped down at the end of their tenure at the charity's annual meeting; two further trustees will retire at 2023's annual meeting.

Trustees both set the direction and ensure the charity meets its work plan as set out in its strategic plan 'Thrive'.

The other new trustees are:

  • Chief executive of Port Skills & Safety Debbie Cavaldoro
  • Managing director of Isle of Man Maritime, and hon secretary of KGFS Isle of Man Captain Lee Clarke. He also works for the maritime technology business Tapiit Group
  • Head of the Royal Navy Medical Service Surgeon Commodore Fleur Marshall
  • Recent managing director of UK fishing company Waterdance Nigel Blazeby. His maritime career also included being principal fishing vessel surveyor at the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, and a Port State Control inspector
