Children say thank you 'ferry much' to crew and other essential workers

Seafarers and other keyworkers doing essential travel for work on Wightlink ferries will be greeted by a gallery of posters created by local children thanking them for their service.

Wightlink asked youngsters to send in messages of support for keyworkers to show its appreciation for those working through the coronavirus crisis and to provide a fun activity for stay-at-home children.

In just a matter of days, around 60 pictures were received, and they are proudly displayed on the vehicle decks of Wightlink's flagship vessel Victoria of Wight. A selection can be seen on Wightlink's Facebook page.

Wightlink PR and brand manager Louise Lea said: 'Children in the community are clearly very grateful to key workers – including our own colleagues at Wightlink – and we are delighted to be letting them know just how appreciated their efforts are at this time.

'There is plenty of space onboard so please do keep the pictures coming.'

Posters can be photographed or scanned and emailed to: marketingdepartment@wightlink.co.uk.

Pictures made with an online drawing tool will also be accepted.

Wightlink is currently offering a reduced timetable with fewer services, concentrating resources on its main Fishbourne to Portsmouth car ferry route to provide lifeline transport for key workers and essential freight.

Wightlink has agreed a furlough plan with Nautilus on behalf of members, in anticipation of operating in the months ahead, as the coronavirus crisis continues to see a drastic reduction in the number of passengers.

Red Funnel ferries also stepped in to carry Wightlink customers for free following the temporary closure of its Yarmouth to Lymington service.
