      Mass march on UK parliament in call for action against P&O Ferries

      Scores of seafarers, trade unionists and their supporters have marched on the UK parliament to insist that the government take action over the P&O Ferries crisis.

      The march began at the headquarters of DP World, the owner of P&O Ferries, in Cardinal Place, London.

      DP World refused to meet with a union delegation consisting of Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson, TUC general secretary Frances O'Grady, and RMT general secretary Mick Lynch.

      The march then proceeded to the House of Commons, where MPs are debating a motion on P&O Ferries. The opposition Labour party is seeking to force a vote that will call on the government to:

      • outlaw fire and rehire and bring forward an urgent bill to strengthen workers' rights
      • suspend the contracts of DP World – the owner of P&O Ferries – until the current situation is resolved
      • remove DP World from the UK government's Transport Advisory Group, to which it was appointed by the now-Foreign Secretary Liz Truss 'to provide knowledge, experience and strategic expertise' on trade negotiations.

      Speaking at the protest, Nautilus executive officer Martyn Gray said: 'We're here to show P&O Ferries that they can't get away with sacking 800 people with no notice.'
